Choosing a domain name: .com, .dz or .net?
Your domain name is the address of your website and your email. Choosing it well saves you from changing it later, which is always costly.
1. Short, easy to say and to write
- Prefer a short name, without hyphens or digits, spelled the way it sounds.
- Say it out loud: if you have to spell it on the phone, it is too complicated.
- Avoid accented letters: they still cause problems with some email systems.
2. Which extension?
- .com: the best known, valid worldwide; a good choice for an international or online business.
- .dz: Algeria's extension, showing that you are an Algerian entity. It is allocated by NIC.dz under its own conditions; we help you with the application.
- .net and .org: useful if the .com is taken, or for an association (.org).
3. Check it is free, and protect your brand
Before deciding, check that the name is available and does not look too much like another company's. If you can, also take close variants (for example the .com and the .dz) so no one else uses them.
4. Register it in your name
The domain holder must be you or your company, not your provider. That is what lets you change host without losing your address. At Qalaa Tech, domains are always registered in the customer's name.
5. Think about renewal
A domain name is rented by the year. If it is not renewed in time, it can be lost, along with your website and email. We write to you before each due date.
